Evaluation of Adaptive FRIFS Method through Several Classification Comparisons

    Get PDF
International audienceAn iterative method to select suitable features for pattern recognition context has been proposed (FRIFS). It combines a global feature selection method based on the Choquet integral and a fuzzy linguistic rule classifier. In this paper, enhancements of this method are presented. An automatic step has been added to make it adaptive to process numerous features. The experimental study, made in a wood defect recognition context, is based on several classifier result analysis. They show the relevancy of the remaining set of selected features. The recognition rates are also considered for each class separately, showing the good behavior of the proposed method

This article proposes a principle of knowledge’s integration for the improvement of a system of defects recognition by vision on wooden boards. We locate the problem of vision which is at the base of this study, then we clarify the expert knowledge, as well in the field of the wood profession as in the field of vision. We use for that a symbolic model based on the NIAM/ORM method, formalizing the expert knowledge expressed in natural language. Then we present the way we exploit these expert knowledge to generate nodes of an arborescent structure for the defects identification of wooden boards. Each node represents an engine of inference based on fuzzy linguistic rules. The results obtained prove the interest of this principle.

A feature selection method based on Choquet Integral and Typicality Analysis

ISBN: 1-4244-1210-2International audienceIn this paper, we present an iterative feature selection method based on feature typicality and interactivity analysis. The aim of such a method is to enhance model interpretability by selecting the best significant features among a list extracted from images. The inference mechanism uses a fuzzy linguistic rule-based system. In the presented application, we apply this method to wood defect classification. Nowadays, feature selection is expertise-driven and most of the time, expert uses features by habits which not always represent the best ones to use. The proposed method aims to replace expert selection by automatically choosing the most adapted features to the recognition problem

International audienceThis study proposes a methodology for automatic camera selection based on the application context modeling. The integration of knowledge about the event makes it possible to identify the sources of interest in the scene. This methodology is applied in the context of the broadcasting of a basketball match. The automatic camera selection is based on the location of the action of interest and the detection of free throws in the video streams.

Efficacy and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of non-specific acute low back pain: a randomised controlled multicentre trial protocol [ISRCTN65814467]

BACKGROUND: Low back pain and its associated incapacitating effects constitute an important healthcare and socioeconomic problem, as well as being one of the main causes of disability among adults of working age. The prevalence of non-specific low back pain is very high among the general population, and 60–70% of adults are believed to have suffered this problem at some time. Nevertheless, few randomised clinical trials have been made of the efficacy and efficiency of acupuncture with respect to acute low back pain. The present study is intended to assess the efficacy of acupuncture for acute low back pain in terms of the improvement reported on the Roland Morris Questionnaire (RMQ) on low back pain incapacity, to estimate the specific and non-specific effects produced by the technique, and to carry out a cost-effectiveness analysis. METHODS/DESIGN: Randomised four-branch controlled multicentre prospective study made to compare semi-standardised real acupuncture, sham acupuncture (acupuncture at non-specific points), placebo acupuncture and conventional treatment. The patients are blinded to the real, sham and placebo acupuncture treatments. Patients in the sample present symptoms of non specific acute low back pain, with a case history of 2 weeks or less, and will be selected from working-age patients, whether in paid employment or not, referred by General Practitioners from Primary Healthcare Clinics to the four clinics participating in this study. In order to assess the primary and secondary result measures, the patients will be requested to fill in a questionnaire before the randomisation and again at 3, 12 and 48 weeks after starting the treatment. The primary result measure will be the clinical relevant improvement (CRI) at 3 weeks after randomisation. We define CRI as a reduction of 35% or more in the RMQ results. DISCUSSION: This study is intended to obtain further evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture on acute low back pain and to isolate the specific and non-specific effects of the treatment
